Do you or someone that you love suffer from PTSD? Do you know a veteran who is working to overcome this frightening, life-crippling condition? If so, you may want to consider float therapy to assist with reducing the symptoms of PTSD.
What is PTSD?
PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder, is a mental condition that occurs after someone has witnessed or experienced an extremely terrifying, traumatic, or dangerous event. PTSD is often the consequence of traumatic ordeals, such as sexual assault, war, accidents, or natural disasters. First responders and emergency personnel can also experience PTSD.
People who suffer from PTSD can be very nervous, angry, fearful, or ridden with guilt. These are normal reactions that can increase over time for PTSD sufferers. Anxiety and panic disorders are also common amongst those with PTSD and the group is also a high risk for suicide.
How Float Therapy Can Help with Post Traumatic Stress
Float therapy has become a recommended alternative treatment for PTSD sufferers. Float therapy is best known for its relaxing and stress reducing capabilities, which is beneficial to those with PTSD.
PTSD suffers are often prescribed powerful medications, such as Ativan that reduce brain activity. While these drugs may have some success in treating PTSD, they can create other problems, like addiction, blurred reality, and coping issues.
Similar to medication, float therapy can alter brain function but without harmful side effects and the risk of addiction. Float therapy combines sensory deprivation with the sensation of weightlessness, which allows a person to enter into a meditative state with ease.
During this meditative state, brain waves are operating at lower frequencies and a person is able to relax in a safe and secure environment. Floatation therapy for a person with PTSD can become a sort of informal, personal counseling session in which that can address their traumatic memories in a relaxing atmosphere.
